Camping

Your guide or arriero is knowledgeable about the right places to camp. However, if you must decide on your own, you should not place your tent on private property without trying to ask the owner for permission, or look right away for official camping sites. Bonfires are part of the experience. However, keep some basic rules in mind:
  • Beware of flying sparks under windy conditions
  • Avoid fires under trees or areas with low-hanging branches
  • Do not chop trees to obtain firewood
  • Be sure to put out the fire thoroughly using sand or water
Generating garbage is unavoidable unless, of course, you eat blackberries during the entire trip! Keep in mind that if your garbage is 100% biodegradable, you may bury it some distance away from campsite. Any and all other garbage must be taken with you.

Biodegradable dish soap, shower gel or shampoo may be used in rivers, however avoid using chemical products period.

Human Physiological products: dig a hole and bury everything, including the toilet paper.
